Rita Schnarr is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, and a Consultant and Senior Facilitator for Anxiety Canada’s online MindShift CBT group treatment program.
Rita holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree from Yorkville University, a B.A. in Adult Education (Hons), a Diploma in Professional Counselling (Distinguished), a Provincial Instructors Diploma, and a Diploma in General Business. Her training and memberships include: The International OCD Foundation; Graduate of the Behavioural Therapy Training Institute; Member of the Canadian Cognitive Behavioural Therapies Association; Basic Certificate in Psychological Health & Safety in the Workplace; Managing Mental Health Issues at Work Manager Certificate; Member of the Psychology Advisory Committee at Kwantlen Polytechnic University; a representative for the Federation of Associations for Counselling Therapists (FACT BC); and a Contributor for the Anxiety Canada, Mindshift CBT app.
Rita has expertise in the following evidence-based modalities of treatment: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Interpersonal Therapy (IPT); Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy and Stress Reduction (MBCT/MBSR); and Dr. John Gottman’s approach to relationship therapy.
Using a holistic and biopsychosocial approach, Rita customizes treatment plans for individuals, couples, families, workplace employees and executives with a range of presenting issues including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, OCD, behavioural disorders, relationship difficulties, trauma, and life transition.
With over 25 years of professional experience in Human Resources, consulting and adult education, Rita has been instrumental in leading, developing, managing, and facilitating programs and people. She has held positions during her corporate career ranging from non-profit to Fortune 500 companies allowing her to relate to her corporate clients.
Rita’s client-centred, friendly, compassionate, and collaborative approach helps her clients instill hope and plan for a brighter future by providing any necessary resources and life-long skills they may apply on their own following the conclusion of sessions.
Rita has been instrumental in the design and development of content for MindShift CBT Groups (Groups), a nationwide online treatment program for adults and youth with mild to moderate anxiety. She is also the facilitator of the adult Groups treatment program and lead facilitator for training workshops.
